One lovely long Danish summers’ evening over a bar-b-que in Kim & Vanessa’s place in Copenhagen, their friends Orla & Susanne Dahl-Jepsen requested I sing a love song they knew from “The Dubliners”...  Sanne hummed the lines... “someone to love me.....” but it didn’t ring a bell with me at all.

When I returned home I did some homework.

The song was “Someone to Love Me”, sung by Barney McKenna of the Dubliners, who only passed away in 2012.

Here it is presented in a new arrangement.

The Dubliners have played their final concerts in the last days of 2012 in Dublin and we present this song here also in celebration of them, their music and their wonderful legacy -  generations of Irish people,  the Irish diaspora and folk music lovers the world over who owe much of their musical education and enjoyment to this iconic folk group.

Music & Lyric

I wish I had someone to love me,

Someone to call me her own,

Someone to sleep with me nightly,

I'm weary of  being alone.

Meet me tonight in the moonlight,

Meet me tonight all alone;

I have a sad story to tell you,

I'll tell by the light of the moon

   Chorus  ..  I wish...

I'll be sent to the new jail tomorrow,

Leaving my darling alone,

With the cold iron bars all around me,

And my head on a pillow of stone.

   Chorus

Tonight is our last night together,

The nearest and dearest must part,

For all that has bound us together,

Is shredded and torn apart.

   Chorus

Oh, if I had wings like an angel

Through heavenly skies I would fly

I'd fly to the arms of my darlin'

And there I'd be willing to die

    Chorus
